Clearly, the main issue is this: where does the no-touch zone take effect?

Is it the center 320x240? The center 640x480? The center 1024x768?

This no-touch zone corresponds in some way to the size of the final animation.

No changes happen within the no-touch zone, so no fading, or blending, or etc is ever visible in the animation. It's just zoom and replace, zoom and replace, etc.

I don't see that each artist making multiple frames is really meaningful; it would be functionally equivalent to just having each artist work at a much larger size. Yes? Or am I missing something?

Personally, I'd say let's charge on in the direction we're going, leaving a 320x240 no-touch zone, and see how it comes out. Think of it as a prototype. We'll learn a lot for the next one.

I think you are correct on all counts... my humble opinion... 'cept the The center 1024x768? has no bearing whatsoever...

another participant passes a complete image with a you an image with a 640x480 no-touch zone... that is immediately resized to fit the center 320x240 of the next image... This no-touch zone corresponds to the size of the final animation at 640x480.

each artist making multiple frames would only, again in my humble opinion, allow the piece to grow beyond a shift from color to color

... hell, I'm talking to the man about animation for chrissakes.

do you just go in and work from frame to frame?
or do you plan and storyboard?

I learned to develop a storyboard, keyframes objects and a cast...
here we are inherently trying to make a slide-show, more than a slide-show—trying to hold on to the notion of an individual artist's image...

with regard to extending frames for artists—in the absence of real collaboration and development between and amongst artists—id like to see a few people develop a sequence simply as examples of what is possible beyond the limitations of transitions from one color square to another colored square

not that there's anything wrong with that wink

your quick sample looks like we've got the idea rolling... some careful alignment re-cropping and optimizing—and alot more frames... we're learning ThumbsUp

I, for one, would like to hear from everyone as they go through the process

Ok then.. smile

I think I have a pretty solid grip on how this will work, aside from programming the animation.

What we have already started should work fine. Just a bit limiting, imo.

From what has been posted so far, there are 3 finished frames.

1 by Walt, mclarkson and myself. Each a 640x480.

sKtd_ne wont have a finished frame until the last person in line gets a hold of it. I'm not too sure how well that one is going to work yet, because the center of his image will have to be blown up to fit around the outside of the last persons volley to complete the loop.

As they are now, Walt is right. They can be animated at 640x480 without resizing. The exception being mclarksons volley, which somehow ended up off center. This should be easily fixable, without effecting possak, who is next in line.

It's pretty late right now, so I dont have time to go into much more detail. I think I should have enough time tomorrow night to give a more complete explanation.

At this point, its clear we really need to lay out a new set of very detailed instructions.

sKtd_ne

i think its working like this, and we will be able to put the display size at
640X480.

As i said before, my initial thought of having untouched frames is not
possible, but I like the fact that we will have some amalgamated frames.

so far this is turning out sick, so we'll continue like this for the 12 or 13
volleys, and then see if we can loop it... which i foresee as being the most
difficult part.

BUT because our volley sizes are double the screen size, DT can take my
full version and incorporate his volley in the bleed zone.... which will
complete my volley.

SO:::::::::
- Do your volleys at 1280X960
- Your blending area is that inside of 640X480
- Your 'no touch zone' is inside the 320X240 square inside the 640X480
frame.

Thats as simple as it will get IMO.

GO GO POSSAK!!!
