I need to get a Flash animation set up for YouTube.
This is my first attempt to export a movie from CS4 and I'm getting nowhere.
I normally dump it as an uncompressed AVI, then re-size/compress/etc. in After Effects.
But ... Flash CS4 will not generate a valid, uncompressed AVI file. It creates an AVI, but it will not play, nor will it load into AE or Premiere. WTF???
I was then going to attempt to push it to h,264 straight from Flash, but any attempt to export as MPEG gives me an immediate "error creating AVI file" message, before it even starts.
I tried exporting as an uncompressed QT but Flash hung during compression.
I am at wit's end. This is practically my only remaining client, and I'd sure hate to tell them to fark off.

CS4 gives me the finger EVERY SINGLE DAY. Sometimes it skips my transitions for no reason at all.
But I can't get around this one and I NEED to.

Sorry MC - we're still running CS3... Didn't see anything in a quick search. You've got the most recent updates?

Is it an early beta version? Maybe dload the latest build? It sounds like an early bug to me.

(As already discussed via MSN, but re-posted for make benefit glorious website of twelve stones):
The only fail-safe method is to export a BMP sequence, then use a video editor to create a "real" AVI.

i love adobe. awesome
I am still on CS3 as well and only know you and X that have it. What breaks if you try to export from 3?

They discontinued support for windows meta files or something used to be able to export for word in a vector format.. sneaky but if you insist on changing a product for the sake of it.. then closed source will let you down. Can you record the screen? Personally I rarely open CS4 flash, I prefer CS3 and I am experimenting with haXe. Can you not send it as a video stream.. no idea?

Shot in the dark here, but can you use the Flash video converter and convert your AVI into an FLV? I'm pretty sure YouTube takes a variety of formats, and if the ultimate goal is to post it up... maybe the FLV approach will suffice?
//Edit: Maybe the AVI is borked beyond hope, so ignore this if that's the case...

Going the wrong way, I'm afraid. I need to get it from Flash to video. (Either AVI or FLV.)

Call me crazy, but there's no way I should have to do that to get a video export from Flash.

If you have CS4 then you should also have the media encoder CS4 (a seperate progam).
When you install flash it asked if you want to install that also.
You export your AVI in flash and open it in that media encoder and resave it as a AVI or something else. That should work.

yeah, the avi export from flash cs4 is dodgy at best. everytime i need to do something like this i always use snapz pro.
brute force ftw.
